Scars
Scars can be caused by acne, but also by wounds, abrasions, and surgery. Scars can be visible in the skin as discolourations (pigmentation) spots and irregularities such as elevations or recesses. Both the discolourations and irregularities can be significantly improved with our skin treatments. Please note: a scar can never be fully removed - we can only improve its appearance.
Every treatment is customized to the type of skin and scar.
Intake
The first step is always an intake with our laser specialist. During this consultation our exact method, your wishes and the realistic possibilities are discussed.
Customized treatment
During the consultation the specialist inspects your skin and scars. Because every type of skin and scar is different we need to customize each treatment for optimal results. The exact price and the number of treatments required therefore also differ for each person.
During a personal intake you will receive honest advice about the best possibilities for improving your scars.
For an intake we charge € 35,-. In most cases we can plan an intake with a treatment directly after, if so desired and requested in advance.
Treatment
Scars can be treated with a variety of methods (click to expand and read more):
IPL
The Ellipse IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) sends out bursts of intense light. The skin absorbs the energy of these flashes, causing redness and pigmentation to fade, the skin texture to refine and active acne to be reduced.
Fractional
A treatment with the fractional method is a good way to renew the skin. Fine lines, slacked skin, and irregularities such as acne scars can significantly be improved with this method.
LED
LED light stimulates the production of new cells and repairs skin tissue. The blue LED light kills the bacteria that cause acne.
Peeling
LED light stimulates the production of new cells and repairs skin tissue. The blue LED light kills the bacteria that cause acne.
IPL
The Ellipse IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) sends out bursts of intense light. The skin absorbs the energy of these flashes, causing redness and pigmentation to fade, the skin texture to refine and active acne to be reduced.
With the IPL we can considerably rejuvenate and refresh the skin. The pores refine and the skin tone improves. The production of collagen is also stimulated, causing the skin to strengthen and rejuvenate.
Veins, redness, and pigmentation spots - including those visible in scars - all fade by treating the skin with the IPL. The IPL’s flashes also kill bacteria, causing pimples to dry out and further reducing redness.
Pre-care
In case you decide to let your skin be treated with the IPL it is important that the skin is as light as possible. Avoid sun tanning and tanning beds during the 3 to 4 weeks before the treatment. Any tanning cream (bronzer) needs to be avoided 1 week before the treatment.
Aftercare
After a treatment with the IPL the following matters apply:
- The treated pigmentation spots and red veins may show some darker discolourations and scabs. This is the sign that the pigmentation and red veins are being broken down and will slowly fade with the renewal of the skin. The discolourations and scabs usually disappear within 1 to 2 weeks. It is important to leave the scabs alone - they need to come off by themselves.
- No sun, tanning beds, or tanning cream (bronzer) for the first 4 weeks after the treatment.
Pigmentation spots worsen by sunlight and tanning beds. In case you are sensitive to pigmentation disorders we advise you to be careful with the sun throughout the year, and use a proper sunscreen every 2 hours when in the sun.
Results
The light of the IPL and lasers is absorbed by the skin and transformed into heat. This causes the pigmentation to fade, red veins to fade, the pores to refine and the skin texture and tone to improve.
External factors such as the sun can damage the skin again. Ageing will also keep reducing the quality of the skin. As such, new ageing effects, including pigmentation spots, may appear over time, and will require maintenance treatments.
Fractional
A treatment with the fractional method is a good way to renew the skin. Fine lines, slacked skin, and irregularities such as acne scars can significantly be improved with this method.
With fractional therapy we create regular minuscule holes in the skin in a controlled manner. This forces the skin to renew itself and form new collagen. For this method, our laser specialists use the Erbium Yag laser, Venus Viva, Tixel, or Ydun laser.
Pre-care
Before this treatment can take place the following practical matters apply:
- For this treatment it is important that the skin is not sunburned. Therefore you need to avoid sun tanning and tanning beds during the 2 weeks before the treatment.
- In the case of active acne the skin cannot be treated with this method.
- Please inform the laser specialist if you occasionally have cold sores
Erbium Yag
The Erbium Yag evaporates the upper skin layers using a fractional laser beam. When a laser beam is fractionated it is divided into many smaller laser beams. As such the fractional laser creates tiny holes in the skin, forcing it to rejuvenate and renew itself. The recovery time after an Erbium Yag treatment is about 7 to 10 days.
Venus Viva
The Venus Viva relies on a method called fractional needling, or micro-needling. It creates tiny holes in the skin using many very thin needles. This method goes less deep into the skin than the Erbium Yag, causing the downtime to be shorter. The Venus Viva also creates heat in the skin through radiofrequency, stimulating the production of collagen and fibroblasts.
A Venus Viva treatment can also be combined with a PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment, to further boost the rejuvenation of your skin, or the growth of your hair. The recovery time after a Venus Viva treatment is about 5 to 7 days.
Tixel
The Tixel makes use of thermal skin rejuvenation. The skin is warmed through miniscule tips that generate heat. This forces the skin to rejuvenate and form new collagen.
The recovery time after a Tixel treatment is about 5 to 7 days.
Ydun
The Ydun uses a fractional laser beam to rejuvenate the skin. The skin is forced to form new collagen in its deeper layers. This causes the connective tissue to recover and smoothens the surface of the skin. The recovery time after an Ydun treatment is about 7 to 10 days.
Number of treatments
For optimal results multiple (three) treatments are advised. In between each fractional treatment needs to be a period of at least 4 weeks. The exact treatment plan will be compiled by the laser specialist, based on your skin.
Aftercare
After a fractional treatment the following practical matters apply:
- The skin will appear irregularly red and somewhat swollen for the first few days. This is normal and will disappear by itself. The skin can also feel dry and tight.
- The skin may flake. This process will take about a week.
- Sports, sauna, and swimming are discouraged during the first 24 hours after the treatment.
- No sun or tanning bed for at least 3 to 4 weeks. A proper sunscreen (factor 30 or higher) is advised at all times.
Results
The skin is generally healed from the treatment after 7 to 10 days. After this healing process the result will become visible. In the months to follow, the skin keeps producing collagen and thus keeps rejuvenating.
An optimal result is achieved through multiple treatments. During the consultation, our laser specialist will compile a treatment plan based on your skin.
LED therapy
The LED Therapy Mask was originally developed by NASA to accelerate the healing of wounds. LED light stimulates the production of new cells and repairs skin tissue. The blue LED light kills the bacteria that cause acne.
LED light is very suitable for the rejuvenation and general improvement of the skin. LED Therapy can also be used in combination with other facial treatments for an accelerated effect. The LED Therapy Mask also increases the permeability of the skin, which causes nourishing creams and serums to work more effectively.
The LED Mask will be placed onto your face for 20 minutes. During this time the mask radiates several wavelengths of LED light, depending on the goal of the treatment. This treatment can also be combined with a hyaluronic acid mask, which restores the moisture levels in the skin.
Number of treatments
With acne the skin is generally calmer after 1 treatment already. For skin rejuvenation and healing usually multiple treatments are required.
Pre-care
There is no pre-care required for a treatment with the LED Therapy Mask.
Aftercare
Directly after the treatment the skin may feel warm and appear red. This usually disappears the same day. There is no further aftercare required for this treatment.
Results
The result will become visible within a few days. The skin will be tighter, any redness will be reduced, and with acne the inflammation will be reduced as well.
Peeling
A peeling improves the structure of the skin. It refines the skin tone and reduces irregularities. With peelings we eliminate old superficial skin cells, forcing the skin to renew and rejuvenate. Active acne can be cleansed with the help of peelings.
Pre-care
The skin cannot be sunburned. We therefore advise to avoid sun tanning and tanning beds for 2 to 3 weeks before the treatment.
Treatment
First the skin is cleaned. Then the skin is covered with a fluid - the peeling. This process is practically painless. The skin may however feel tight and sting a little during the treatment. A treatment of the face takes about 20 minutes. As result the pores refine, pigmentation fades, and impurities such as acne are cleansed. The production of collagen is also stimulated, causing the skin to rejuvenate.
Aftercare
After a peeling it is important to avoid the sun and tanning bed for 2 to 3 weeks. A proper sunscreen (factor 30 or higher) is advised at all times. Generally the skin will flake and peel in the first 5 to 7 days. Do not touch the peels, they need to come off by themselves. After 1 week the new skin is usually visible.
Number of treatments
Generally, you need at least 4 to 7 treatments to achieve good results. A follow-up treatment can be booked after 4 weeks for a scar on the face, and after 6-8 weeks for a scar elsewhere on the body.
Over 25 years of experience
It is important that scars are treated by a skilled specialist in order to safely achieve optimal results. We have over 25 years of experience with scars and thus have treated a wide variety of skin and scars. As such our laser specialists are more than qualified to customize and perform the most effective treatment.
Result
With our methods we fade the pigmentation and improve the irregularities of scars. For an optimal result, multiple treatments will be necessary. The result will be visible only after a few weeks.
With each treatment the pigmentation will fade and the quality of the skin will improve.
Improved skin quality
The positive side effect of the treatment of scars is that the skin quality improves. The production of collagen is stimulated, the pores refine, the skin strengthens and becomes more elastic, wrinkles are reduced and the local blood stream is stimulated. As a result the skin appears fresher and smoother.
